Assignment (due next Wednesday):

 

1. Analyze the surface plot for Dec 24, 1982.  Do the following analyses:

            a. Draw isobars in black ink every 4 mb, including 00.

            b. Draw isotherms in red ink every 10 F including 50 F.

            c. Draw fronts in the proper places, using the standard colors and symbols.

 

2. Analyze the surface plot for Jan 10, 2017.  Do the same analyses:

            a. Draw isobars in black ink every 4 mb, including 00.

            b. Draw isotherms in red ink every 10 F including 50 F.

            c. Draw fronts in the proper places, using the standard colors and symbols.

 

 

3. Based on your analyses of the two cases, answer the following:

            a. How are the two analyses different (other than the date and time)?

            b. The 1982 case featured a 24 inch snowfall at Denver, Colorado (DEN) while for the 2017 case, Denver received 0 inches of snow.  In fact, there was no precipitation at all.  Based solely on your analyses, give at least two meteorological hypotheses to explain the snowfall and precipitation differences.
