THREE FINE DAYS IN THE NATION'S CAPITAL

Every year (for almost 25 years), three students were selected to go to the National Student Symposium sponsored by the Center for the Study of the Presidency, in Washington, DC. The Dean of Science and Social Science, the Office of the Provost, the Student Association, and the Department of Political Science have made this tradition possible.

For many years, Professor Paul Scheele, (pictured in the photo to the right with students Vinnie Vernuccio, Alanna Gothard, and David Burke) accompanied the students to the symposium. In April of 2002, those students and the two faculty Pauls appreciated the memorial to FDR and Eleanor Roosevelt, shown in both photos.

Students typically applied for the symposium experience in February. Students from any major who did well in a minimum of three Political Science courses were eligible. When the Center For the Study of the Presidency stopped sponsoring the Symposium the Department sought alternative opportunities for our students elsewhere. The Political Science Club has typically organized trips to either Philadelphia and Washington every year. And beginning in 2009 the students, faculty and the administration have sponsored an Undergraduate Political Science Conference during the spring semester. http://www.oneonta.edu/polsconf/
