Other Professional Activities

Attended workshops in Personalized-Mastery Systems of instruction (Northeastern University, Boston, MA), Biological Rhythms (Mount Holyoke College, Northampton, MA), the SPSS statistical package (SUNY-Oneonta), and Multivariate Designs and Statistical Analyses (SUNY-Oneonta).  Coordinated the 14th, and co-coordinated the 25th Annual Eastern Undergraduate Psychology Conference. Served as an Associate Book Review Editor for the interdisciplinary Journal MENTALITIES (1982-1984).  Sponsored a variety of undergraduate independent study research projects, and accompanied several groups of students to undergraduate and professional psychology conferences. Conducted workshops dealing with alcohol issues, for teenagers from migrant worker families. Served on two Dissertation Committees at Binghamton University. Served as co-leader of a peer-counseling workshop at Temple Israel, Binghamton, NY, and have made numerous presentations on psychological subjects throughout the community.


IV  COLLEGE AND COMMUNITY SERVICE (1974-PRESENT)

Was part of a working group which restructured the introductory psychology program into a staggered, team format, and was the first coordinator of the program (1975-1976). Participated in restructuring the experimental and social psychology programs, and created a number of new courses.  Served as Advisor to the Psychology Club (1977; 1980-1982), and as Advisor to the Jewish Activities Club (1978-1990). Has participated as an instructor for the Experimental Freshman Seminar program, and as a member of a subcommittee of the working group that established the program.  Served on the Departmental Priorities Subcommittee of the Faculty Committee on Instruction and Educational Priorities, as a departmental delegate to the Faculty Senate, as a departmental delegate to the Curriculum Committee, and as a member of the Religious Studies Committee. Made many presentations to college groups, including the Catskill Area Study Council's "Open Market," the "Evening with Faculty" series, the "Famous Last Words" lecture series, and the Psychology Club. Has written over 100 "Faculty Corner" columns for the campus newspaper, the STATE TIMES, dealing with the full range of issues affecting students and faculty, and served as an advisor to the STATE TIMES for 15 years. Chaired the Subcommittee for the Assessment of Student Personal and Social Growth.  Appointed by the President as Chair of the Committee on Retention Issues for the college.  Currently serves as a member of the Institutional Review Board of the college, and as chair of the Academic Program Assessment Committee. 

Served as a trustee and as President of the Board of Directors of the TLC Day Care Center in Oneonta. Provided a wide range of services to Temple Beth El in Oneonta, including serving as a trustee of the Board of Directors, co-directing the religious school, working as a teacher of Jewish Studies and the Hebrew Language, and serving as liaison to the college community. Have served as member of the Executive Committee and as President of Temple Israel, in Vestal, NY.
