(OH)
– Thursday-Saturday, May 21-23, 2009
Saturday
Joe Reed concluded his Oneonta State track career with a sixth
place finish in the 200 meters in a time of 21.84. The senior from
Rome, NY moved up two spots from the preliminaries where he ran the
eighth fastest time. He came into the meet as the 16th seed.
This is his seventh All-American plaque and he now is the most decorated
male athlete in Oneonta State history. He was an All-American in
the 100 meters once, twice in each of the 55 meters, 200 meters, and
1600 meter relay, winning the NCAA title indoors in 2009 in later event.
His sixth place finish here garnered three points in the team
competition, placing Oneonta State in a tie for 62nd.
200 meters: 6th - Joe Reed (Sr.), 21.84
Thursday
In the last meet of his illustrious career, senior Joe Reed once again
came through in the clutch. The six time All-American earned a
spot in Saturday's 200 meter final by placing third in his heat and
eighth overall in today's preliminaries. Running in lane seven,
Reed crossed the line in a time of 21.77. He beat the ninth place
time by .01 to obtain the eighth and final qualifying position.
He'll be running in lane one on Saturday at 3:35pm and provided he
finishes the race, he'll receive his seventh career All-American plaque.

NCAA Championships @ Rose-Hulman Institute of
Technology
– Friday-Saturday, March 13-14, 2009
The 4x400 meter relay entered the
NCAA Div. III National Championship meet this weekend at Rose Hulman
Institute in Terre Haute, Ind. with the fastest time in the country and
left the meet with the indoor national title. The winning foursome
included seniors Eric Theiss and
Joe Reed, junior
Fred Romer, and
sophomore Sean Daly. They came across the finish line with a time
of 3:17.19 to win the event by nearly 1.50 seconds over Carroll College,
who placed second with a time of 3:18.51. The National
Championship is the crowning victory for this foursome this indoor
season. Previous to the NCAA meet, they had won both the SUNYAC
and ECAC Div. III crowns. With the win in the relay, the men’s
track & field program will add five All-America plaques to its trophy
case. Earlier in the day, Reed earned his second consecutive
indoor All-American honor when he placed fifth in the 55 meter dash in a
time of 6.37. Reed has now accumulated three indoor All-American
certificates to go with his two outdoor honors and now a national title.
For Theiss and Romer, this is the second straight year that they have
earned All-American honors in the relay event. Last year they were
part of the foursome that took sixth place at the NCAA meet. Daly
is earning his first All-American honor. The national title is the
first for the men’s track & field program, which is only in its seventh
year as a varsity sport at the college. Additionally, the team's
14 points placed them in 11th place in the team competition, the highest
ever for the men's program. Full Results, photos, and video from
the meet can be found at

ECAC Championships @ Tufts University
– Friday-Saturday, March 6-7, 2009
Oneonta State placed 6th
out of 50 teams with 36 points, just three points out of earning of a
third place plaque. Senior Joe Reed led the way, first by placing
in the runner-up position in the 55 dash. His time of 6.38 seconds
improved his NCAA Provisional qualifying time
and he is now ranked 7th in the country. He ended the
weekend by leading off the 4x400 relay. The Red Dragons led from
the start and never looked back as Reed handed to junior Fred Romer, who
passed to sophomore Sean Daly, who delivered the baton to senior Eric
Theiss, the number one ranked 400 runner in Division III. Theiss
extended the already enormous lead and crossed the line in 3:17.16, good
for an NCAA Provisional qualifying time. O-State will have the
national leading time heading into next weekend’s NCAA Championships at
Rose-Hulman Institute in Indiana. Earlier in the day, Theiss and
Romer both placed 4th in their respective events.
Theiss ran 22.07 in the 200 meters, while Romer ran 50.06 for 400
meters. Freshman Sean Wren also placed 4th, as he ran

The Red Dragons placed 4th out of 8 teams with 91 points. The top

clocking in at 49.19, breaking the meet record. In the final event
of the day he ran the anchor leg on the winning 4x400 relay to pick up
his second meet record and SUNYAC crown on the day. He also picked
up a fourth place finish in the 200 meter dash and an eighth place
finish in the 55 meter dash. For the day he scored 18.5 points of
Oneonta’s total of 91 team points, in being named the Track Athlete of

Arnold's mark from 2005. DeVasto was the top scorer in the field
for the men’s championship with 16 points and was named the Field
Athlete of the Meet. Other top performances for the men included
sophomore Danny Sullivan and the distance medley relay foursome.
Sullivan placed second in the high jump clearing 6’3-1/2", which
actually was the same height as the winner, but Sullivan had more misses
during the competition. The DMR came away with a runner-up finish
