NCAA Atlantic Region Championship @ Letchworth

Oneonta State placed 9th out of 38 teams with 280 points,
which was their highest place finish ever in the NCAA Atlantic Region.
Senior Nick Pampena completed his senior campaign once again as the
first Red Dragon to cross the line in 46th place with a time
of 26:25 over the 8K Letchworth Park course. His teammates packed it in
with the top five guys finishing within 22 seconds of him. Freshman
Nick Madison placed 52nd in 26:33. He was followed closely
by the junior trio of Tim Greenberg (56th), Frank
Pfaffenberger (61st), and Chuck Hollister (65th)
with times of 26:38, 26:45, and 26:47. Freshman Chris Harvey placed 98th
in a time of 27:31 while sophomore Matt Laroe placed 138th in
28:10. Our goal at the onset of the season was to finish in the top
ten at this meet and it is a great feeling to accomplish it, commented
Head Coach Matt LoPiccolo. The guys ran really well as a team, led by
Nick (Pampena). He should be proud of leading us to this level.

Oneonta State
placed 4th out of 10 teams with 129 points, improving two
spots from their 6th place finish in 2008. Senior Nick
Pampena was the top Red Dragon finisher in 21st overall in a
time of 26:45 over the SUNY Cortland 8K course. Freshmen Nick Madison
was next in 27th place in a time of 27:02. He was followed
closely by junior Chuck Hollister, one place back in 27:07. His
classmates, Frank Pfaffenberger and Tim Greenberg, completed the scoring
in 33rd and 37th places, respectively, in times of
27:27 and 27:32. Sophomore Matt Laroe placed 48th (27:54)
while freshman Chris Harvey was the 7th man, placing 66th
(28:34).

Oneonta State placed 3rd out of 13 teams with 58 points, four
shy of SUNYAC rival Plattsburgh. Senior Nick Pampena ran the fastest 8K
time by a Red Dragon this season (25:57) in finishing 5th
overall. Junior Tim Greenberg was next in 11th with teammate
Nick Madison finishing right with him in 12th place. Both
were clocked at 26:26, which gave Madison the school record for 8K for
freshmen. Junior Chuck Hollister finished two spots back in 14th
(26:30) while classmate Frank Pfaffenberger was another two spots back
in 16th place with a time of 26:36.

The Red Dragons
placed 2nd out of 4 teams with 38 points, just 5 behind
Fredonia State. Senior Nick Pampena once again led the way with a fifth
place finish in a time of 26:32 over the damp 8K course. Junior Tim
Greenberg placed eighth in a time of 26:51 while classmate Frank
Pfaffenberger returned to form in placing eleventh in a time of 27:15.
Another junior, Chuck Hollister was the right behind in thirteenth place
with a time of 27:19. Freshman Nick Madison was three seconds back in
fourteenth place in a time of 27:22 to complete the scoring for O-State.

Oneonta State was seeded in the middle Brown race of three and placed
28th out of 38 teams with 625 points at the enormous Paul
Short Invitational. Senior Nick Pampena led the way with a 50th
place finish in a time of 26:07 over the 8,000 meter Lehigh campus
course. Junior Tim Greenberg placed 94th in a personal best
time of 26:30 while Oneonta High teammate, Nick Madison was nine seconds
back in 112th place. Freshman Madisons time of 26:39 is the
3rd fastest freshman 8K time in school history. Sophomore
Matt Laroe placed 156th in a time of 26:56, while junior
Chuck Hollister was the 5th man in a time of 27:26.

Despite running without two of their top five runners,
Oneonta State still managed a runner-up finish out of six teams with 71
points. Plattsburgh won with 33 points. The Red Dragons held off both
Hamilton and Delhi by one point. Senior Nick Pampena broke Marty
Nicholsons school record (19:38) for 6km at Fortin Park with a new time
of 19:19. Pampena placed third behind the 2008 National Champion and a
2008 All-American. Junior Tim Greenberg was next in for the Red Dragons
in eighth place in a time of 19:45. Sophomore Matt Laroe placed 14th
in a time of 20:01. Freshmen Ben Reynolds and Chris Harvey rounded out
the scoring in 24th and 25th places, respectively
in times of 20:17 and 20:19. I was very happy to come out of here with
a second place team finish, said Matt LoPiccolo, head coach. The
underclassmen certainly stepped up, while Pampena and Greenberg ran
strong up front. Im excited for October.

Hartwick College Fast Course 5K

Oneonta State sent their newcomers to Hartwick for the battle of Oneonta
and came away with a 16-47 win. Oneonta High School graduate and
current freshman, Nick Madison, picked up the individual win in a
personal best time of 16:06 for 5,000 meters. Classmate and fellow
Section IV runner, Ben Reynolds, was the runner-up only three seconds
behind. Freshmen Chris Harvey and Nate Weber were next in for
O-State, placing fourth and fifth in times of 16:28 and 16:46,
respectively. Sophomore transfer, Kurt Pfaffenberger, placed
seventh in 17:02 to round out the scoring for the Red Dragons.

Oneonta State opened the 2009 season
on their home course in a sweeping fashion. The men captured the
first seven places to post a perfect score of 15 against visiting Oswego
and Hartwick. Senior Nick Pampena and a trio of juniors that
included Tim Greenberg, Sean Daly, and Frank Pfaffenberger led the men
today. The foursome ran strong and together from the start and
came across the finish line four wide in a time of 20:19 over the 6
kilometer Fortin Park course. Rounding out the top seven for the
Red Dragons were a pair of newcomers and sophomore Matt Laroe, who
placed
seventh
in 20:51. Showing well in their debut meet for Oneonta were
freshmen Ben Reynolds and Nick Madison, finishing
in fifth and sixth places respectively,
in times of 20:37 and 20:44.
