NCAA Championships @ UW-Oshkosh (Oshkosh, WI) - Thursday-Friday, May 24-25, 2007

In the first day of competition at the 2007 Outdoor NCAA Championships, sophomore Joe Reed broke his own school record in the 200 meters, placing 12th overall and 5th in his heat with a time of 21.35.  His previous school best was set on May 5th at home with a time of 21.52.  The top 9 advanced to Saturday's final.  Later in the evening, he teamed with freshman Fred Romer, senior Adam Remillard, and classmate Eric Theiss to place 4th in their heat of the 1600 meter relay with a time of 3:18.11.  The quartet ran their heat in a driving rain storm and missed making Saturday's final by 11 hundredths of a second.  The Red Dragons came in as the 2nd to last seed and left running faster than 8 other schools. 

On Friday, the weather turned for the better and Joe Reed was the only one to compete.  He ran the semi-finals of the 100 meters.  Unfortunately, he was unable to advance to Saturday's final. 


ECAC Championships @ Oneonta State - Friday, May 18, 2007

The men scored a total of 44 points to finish third overall and earn their first ever ECAC team plaque.  The highlight was being crowned champions in the 1,600-meter relay in an NCAA provisional time of 3:15.31. They are currently 13th on the NCAA Div. III performance list and will await word on whether they will be invited to the NCAA championship meet, which will be Sunday evening. This year’s outdoor championships will be held at Wisconsin Oshkosh.  The foursome that earned the title included sophomores Joe Reed and Eric Theiss, freshman Fred Romer and senior Adam Remillard.  Reed was also a medalist in the 100 and 200-meter dashes with a third and second place finish respectively in times of 10.83 and 21.71.  Theiss was also a medalist in the 400 meters with a second place finish in an NCAA provisional time of 48.44.  Remillard earned a medal in the long jump placing third overall with a leap of 6.68 meters.

The hosts had a solid showing on the first day of competition with sophomore Joe Reed (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) making it through the preliminaries of the 100-meter dash to qualify for tomorrow's finals in the event. Reed won his heat with the second fastest time overall at 10.85 seconds. Senior Matt Durkin (East Greenbush, NY/Columbia) scored Oneonta's initial points of the meet with a third place finish in the 3,000 meter steeplechase. Durkin was in sixth place until he made a move in the final 600 meters and finished with a personal-best time of 9:28.55 to close out his career.


NYC Qualifying Challenge @ Icahn Stadium

The Red Dragons hit ECAC marks in the last invitational of the year.  Senior Matt Durkin won the steeplechase in a season's best and ECAC qualifying time of 9:47.09.  Classmate Adam Remillard was 2nd in the long jump with a personal best and ECAC leap of 6.88 meters.  Sophomore Eric Theiss won his heat in the 400 in a personal best and ECAC qualifying time of 48.75.  Classmate Joe Reed was right behind in 49.33.  Senior Jeremy Cline threw another personal best in the javelin with a mark of 48.56 meters.  Sophomore Rich Kardas broke the school record in 110 hurdles with a time of 15.96.  In the same event, freshman Tye Thompson ran a personal best of 16.05, as well.  In the 1500, junior Alex Grout and freshman Nick Pampena ran season's bests with times of 4:05.03 and 4:05.32, respectively, narrowly missing the ECAC mark.  Both men came back and ran the 800 with Grout running 1:59.11 and Pampena running a personal best of 1:59.81.  Classmate Fred Romer also ran 1:57.66 in the 800.  Shortly after, he would team with Reed, Remillard, and Theiss to place 3rd in the 4x400 with a time of 3:20.37.  Oneonta State will host the 2007 ECAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships this Thursday and Friday, May 17th and 18th, starting at 2:00pm and 10:00am, respectively.

Oneonta State May Meet - Saturday, May 5, 2007

Oneonta State defeated Plattsburgh State in a dual meet with a score of 70-57.  Sophomore Joe Reed hit his 2nd NCAA provisional mark of the weekend when he won the 200 in a time of 21.52.  His time beat All-American Tom O'Neill's school record of 21.65 set at the SUNYAC Championships when Oneonta hosted in April of 2005.  Sophomore Eric Theiss set a personal best of 22.13 in in the 200 and won the 100 in 11.45.  Freshman Fred Romer won the 800, senior Matt Durkin won the 1,500, and sophomore Marty Nicholson won the 10,000.  Freshman Tye Thompson won both the 110 and 400 hurdles in times of 16.31 and 58.45.  Senior Jeremy Cline won both the long and triple jumps and the javelin with a personal best throw of 48.42 meters.  Sophomore Angelo Posillico won the hammer throw with a personal best heave of 38.76 meters.  Senior Adam Remillard closed out the decathlon in 2nd place with a score of 5,369, which established a new school record.  Full results can be found at

Oneonta State May Meet - Friday, May 4, 2007

On the first day of competition in the decathlon, senior Adam Remillard is in 2nd place with 3,301 points, just 142 behind Plattsburgh's John Daly.  The day opened with sophomore Joe Reed winning the 1st event, the 100 meters, in a school record and NCAA provisional qualifying time of 10.59.  In the 2nd event, the long jump, Remillard leapt a personal best of 6.86 meters to hit the ECAC standard.  Later in the decathlon, Reed did not clear a height in high jump and fell out of contention.  Full results are available at www.oneonta.edu/track/07MayMeetDecDay1.htm.  The decathlon continues Saturday at 10:30am at O-State's All College Field with the open field events starting at 1:00pm and the track events at 2:30. 


SUNYAC Championships @ Fredonia - Friday-Saturday, April 27-28, 2007

The Red Dragons placed 5th with 80 points as Adam Remillard and Eric Theiss captured individual SUNYAC titles.  Remillard defended his indoor SUNYAC crown in the long jump by once again winning the competition on his last jump.  The senior was in 6th place headed into the 6th and final round of jumps.  He leapt 6.63 meters to tie the leader.  He ended up breaking the tie and winning the title with his 2nd best jump of 6.43 meters.  Remillard was tied for 7th headed into the finals of the triple jump where he won the competition with a jump of 13.22 meters.  Sophomore Eric Theiss won his 1st individual SUNYAC title when he beat the defending indoor champion with a time of 49.15.  The duo of Theiss and Remillard teamed with sophomore Joe Reed and freshman Fred Romer to place 2nd in the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:19.57 and 4th in the 4x100 relay with a time of 43.76.  Reed placed 3rd in the 200 meters and 4th in the 100 meters with times of 22.72 and 11.15, respectively.  Senior Jeremy Cline was the runner-up in the javelin with a throw of 45.78 meters.  He also placed 4th in the triple jump with a leap of 13.03 meters, 5 cm out of 2nd place.  He picked up a point in the high jump with a mark of 1.78 meters which tied him for 6th.  Junior Alex Grout placed 4th in the 1500 with a time of 4:22.62 and 8th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:04.79.  Freshman Nick Pampena placed 8th in the 1500 with a time of 4:26.69.  Classmate Tye Thompson was 6th in the 400 hurdles with a time of 58.39 while senior Matt Durkin ended his SUNYAC career with a 7th place finish in the steeplechase with a time of 9:51.02.

Cortland Classic - Saturday, April 21, 2007

Sophomore Joe Reed hit the NCAA provisional standard in winning the 400 meters in a personal best time of 48.42.  Classmate Eric Theiss was right behind, also in a personal best time of 49.08, which hit the ECAC mark.  The duo started the day off by teaming with freshman Tye Thompson and senior Adam Remillard to place 2nd in the 4x100 relay in an ECAC time of 43.63.  To end the meet, Theiss and Remillard teamed with freshmen Fred Romer and Nick Pampena to win the 4x400 relay in an ECAC and season best time of 3:22.70.  Remillard hit his 3rd ECAC mark of the day, winning the long jump on his last jump with a leap of 6.76 meters.  Classmate Jeremy Cline placed 2nd in the triple jump with an ECAC qualifying jump of 13.23 meters.

The College of New Jersey Invitational - Saturday, April 14, 2007

Oneonta State placed 6th out of 16 teams with 59.50 points.  Sophomore Marty Nicholson started the day off right for the Red Dragons when he won the 10,000 meters in a SUNYAC qualifying time of 33:14.40.  It was Nicholson's first collegiate win.  Classmate Joe Reed followed suit in winning the 100 meters in a school record and NCAA provisional qualifying time of 10.72.  The previous record of 10.73 was set by Tom O'Neill at the 2005 SUNYAC Championships at Oneonta.  Reed also placed 2nd in the 200 meters in a personal best time of 21.76, good enough for the ECAC mark and only 1 hundredth off the NCAA time.  Classmate Eric Theiss hit the ECAC standard in both the 100 and 200, as well.  His time of 11.09 in the 100 was a personal best.  Another sophomore, Rich Kardas, placed 3rd in the 110 hurdles with a personal best and SUNYAC qualifying time of 16.25.  Freshman Fred Romer placed 7th in the 400 with an ECAC time of 50.62.  Senior Adam Remillard was 3rd in the long jump with an outdoor personal best and ECAC qualifying leap of 6.67 meters.  He and Romer teamed with freshman Nick Pampena and senior Matt Durkin to place 7th in the 4x400 with a SUNYAC time of 3:29.56.  In the javelin, senior Jeremy Cline placed 8th with a SUNYAC toss of 46.63 meters.  Freshman Joe Sullivan, in his first collegiate jav competition, hit the SUNYAC mark with a throw of 44.63 meters that placed him 10th.

Richard Stockton College Osprey Open - Saturday, April 7, 2007

The Red Dragons opened the 2007 Outdoor season in 30 degree weather at the Osprey Open in southern New Jersey.  Sophomore Joe Reed won both the 100 and 200 in ECAC qualifying times of 11.14 and 22.33, respectively.  Classmate Eric Theiss placed 3rd in the 100 with a SUNYAC time of 11.41 and was right on Reed's heels in the 200 with an ECAC time of 22.44.  Another sophomore, Marty Nicholson, was the runner-up in the 5,000 in a SUNYAC qualifying time of 15:50.85.  Freshman Fred Romer also placed 2nd.  His time of 50.50 in the 400 was an ECAC qualifying time.  Senior Adam Remillard hit the ECAC standard in both the long and triple jumps.  His leap of 6.50 meters placed him 3rd in the long and his jump of 13.37 meters placed him 4th in the triple.  He finished the day by teaming with Romer, senior Matt Durkin, and freshman Nick Pampena to place 2nd in the 4x400 relay in a time of 3:31.30.

ECAC Championships @ Wesleyan University (CT) – Friday-Saturday, March 2-3, 2007

Oneonta State placed 7th out of 55 teams with 30 points, which was a drastic improvement over the 2006 Indoor ECAC Championships where they placed 21st out of 44 teams with 11 points.  This time, sophomore Joe Reed captured the men’s program’s first ever ECAC Championship, as he won the 200 meters in a time of 22.41.  His time was a personal best and was less than 1 hundredth of a second ahead of second place.  Classmate Eric Theiss was the runner-up in the 400 meters with a time of 50.13.  Seniors Adam Remillard and Matt Durkin picked up a pair of 5th place finishes.  Remillard leapt 6.53 meters in the long jump while Durkin ran 2:34.54 in the 1,000 meters.  On Friday night, Durkin and Theiss teamed with junior Alex Grout and freshman Fred Romer to place 5th in the distance medley relay in a time of 10:31.82.

NYU Fastrack Invite @ The NY Armory - Friday, February 23, 2007

The Red Dragons traveled to NYC to run at NY's famed Amory Track.  Alex Grout broke his own school record in the mile run with a new clocking of 4:14.08.  The junior placed 9th overall and hit the NCAA provisional standard in the process.  He ended the day by anchoring the 4x800 relay team to victory in a school record and ECAC qualifying time of 8:01.44.  Freshmen Fred Romer and Nick Pampena and senior Matt Durkin teamed with Grout to take the win.  Earlier in the day, Durkin and Pampena set new personal bests in the 1,000 meters with times of 2:33.52 and 2:36.35, respectively which placed them 13th and 24th.  Durkin's time hit the ECAC standard.  Romer hit the ECAC mark, as well, with a 20th place finish in the 800 meters with a time of 1:57.82.  Senior Jeremy Cline was the highest individual finisher on the day, taking 4th in the triple jump with a leap of 13.49 meters.  Classmate Adam Remillard was 9th in the long jump with a jump of 6.72 meters.  Sophomores Joe Reed and Eric Theiss placed 8th and 20th in the 60 and 400 meters, respectively in times of 7.02 and 49.89.  The marks for Cline, Remillard, Reed, and Theiss all met the ECAC standards.  Sophomore Rich Kardas tied teammate Tye Thompson's school record in the 60 hurdles with a time of 9.01 seconds.

SUNYAC Championships @ Hobart/William Smith Colleges – Saturday, February 17, 2007

Oneonta State achieved drastic improvement over their 5th place 2006 finish.  The Red Dragons placed 3rd with 90 points, just 11 out of 2nd place.  Senior horizontal jumpers Adam Remillard and Jeremy Cline led the way in winning both the long and triple jumps.  Remillard leapt his way to victory in the long on his last attempt of the competition to win by 2cm with an ECAC qualifying jump of 6.80 meters.  Cline followed in the same manner to win the triple with a leap of 13.59 meters, for a 1cm margin of victory and ECAC mark.  For both men, it was their first individual SUNYAC title.  Remillard also placed 5th in the triple jump with an ECAC leap of 13.15 meters.  He also anchored the 4x400 relay of team of sophomores Joe Reed, Shane Raymo, and freshman Nick Pampena to a 4th place finish in a time of 3:31.23.  Reed returned to NCAA form from early season injury to place 3rd in both the 55 and 200 meters.  His time of 6.47 in the 55 dash was an NCAA provisional time and was .01 off his personal best.  His time of 22.42 in the 200, was a personal best and ECAC qualifying time.  Alex Grout picked up the only other individual crown for O-State.  The junior won the 800 meters out of the slow heat in an ECAC time of 1:57.40.  Freshman Fred Romer was 5th in the same event in a time of 1:59.31.  The duo teamed with sophomore Eric Theiss and senior Matt Durkin to place 3rd in the distance medley relay in a time of 10:47.18.  Earlier in the day, Theiss ran a great race and placed 2nd in the 400 in an ECAC qualifying time of 49.68.  He also placed 6th in the 200 in another ECAC time of 22.68.  Durkin placed 5th in the mile in a personal best of 4:26.76.  Freshman Tye Thompson had the surprise race of the day.  He placed 2nd in the 55 hurdles in personal best, school record, and ECAC qualifying time of 7.93 seconds.  Sophomore Rich Kardas placed 8th in the same event in a time of 8.30.  Picking up unexpected points were Angelo Posillico and Mike Barry.  Sophomore Posillico threw a huge personal best of 13.20 meters in the weight throw to place 7th.  Freshman Barry triple jumped his way to a personal best by a foot and a half to place 6th with a mark of 13.09 meters, missing ECAC’s by 1 cm.

The Red Dragons traveled to Boston University for the annual two day St. Valentine's Invitational.  On Friday, sophomore Eric Theiss placed 12th in the 200 meters with a personal best and ECAC qualifying time of 22.24.  In the 400 meters earlier in the day, Theiss placed 25th with another personal best time of 49.13, missing the NCAA provisional mark by .03.  In his 800 meter debut, freshman Fred Romer ran a personal best of 1:55.51 to break the school record, qualified for ECACs, and placed 31st overall.  Romer broke junior Alex Grout's school record of 1:58.42 set at Colgate two weeks ago.  Grout however, broke the mile school record in placing 27th overall in a time of 4:15.43, which missed the NCAA provisional mark by .33.  Ryan Wells held the record of 4:20.48 set at Colgate on February 5th, 2005.  Freshman Nick Pampena and Senior Matt Durkin ran personal bests of 4:25.31 and 4:28.91, respectively in the mile.  Senior Nick Scalfone broke his own school record in the 5000 with a time of 15:36.52.  On Saturday, the quartet of Durkin, Theiss, Romer, and Grout ran the distance medley relay and placed 8th overall in a time of 10:05.87.  The time broke the school record by an amazing 42 seconds and hit the NCAA provisional mark.  Durkin led off the 1200 leg with a 3:07.8 split.  Theiss followed with a 48.3 clocking in the 400.  Romer was next with a 1:56.7 in his 800 leg and Grout anchored the team home with a 4:12.8 1600 split.

MIT Co-Ed Invitational - Saturday, February 10, 2007

Over at MIT, freshman Tye Thompson placed 3rd in the 55 dash with a SUNYAC qualifying time of 6.88.  He also placed 7th in the 55 hurdles with a time of 8.47.  Sophomore Rich Kardas placed 5th in the hurdles with a SUNYAC time of 8.36.  Classmate Angelo Posillico placed 14th in the weight throw with a heave of 12.00 meters.  Senior Rick DeCarr, junior Ken Stannard, sophomore Josh Haverlock, and freshman Travis Visco won the 3200 meter relay with a time of 8:59.10.

Syracuse University Invitational – Friday, February 2, 2007

Oneonta State traveled to Manley Field House to compete against the Orange on Groundhog’s Day.  Sophomore Eric Theiss ran personal bests in both the 55 dash and 200 meters in placing 5th and 1st respectively.  He ran 6.58 in the finals of the 55 to hit the ECAC qualifying mark.  In the 200, he blew away the field in running 22.37 which qualified him for ECAC’s and beat his previous personal best by .50 seconds.  In the 1000, junior Alex Grout and senior Matt Durkin finished 2nd and 3rd respectively in ECAC qualifying times of 2:31.92 and 2:34.56.  Grout’s time beat Durkin’s school record of 2:34.42 set last year at New York’s Armory on February 24th.  The Red Dragons also placed 5th in the 1000 with freshman Nick Pampena running 2:38.37.  Classmate Fred Romer beat his personal best in the 500 by running 1:07.73.  His time placed him 4th and improved his ECAC qualifying time.  Sophomore Rich Kardas placed 7th in the 55 hurdles with a time of 8.69.  In the 4x400 relay, Romer, Grout, and Pampena teamed with senior Rick DeCarr to place 4th in a time of 3:35.43.  In the field events, senior Adam Remillard placed 5th in the triple jump with a jump of 13.00 meters.  In the shot put, classmate Jeremy Cline placed 8th with a toss of 11.86 meters, missing the SUNYAC mark by 3cm in his first ever shot competition.  Sophomore Angelo Posillico placed 7th in the weight throw with a heave of 11.99 meters.

Colgate University Class of 1932 Invitational – Saturday, January 27, 2007

The Red Dragons placed 8th out of 11 teams with 37 points and picked up four runner-up finishes on the day.  Senior Jeremy Cline leapt to a 2nd place finish in the triple with an ECAC qualifying jump of 13.20 meters.  Junior Alex Grout set the school record in the 800 meters with his runner-up finish.  His time of 1:58.42 broke Matt Valcik’s school record of 2:01.23, set on February 15, 2003 at Tufts University.  Sophomore Eric Theiss set a new personal best in the 200 meters.  He placed 2nd in an ECAC qualifying time of 22.87.  Theiss and Grout later teamed with freshman Fred Romer and sophomore Shane Raymo to place 2nd in the 4x400 relay in an ECAC qualifying time of 3:28.03.  Senior Nick Scalfone hit the SUNYAC standard in the 3,000 with a time of 9:09.51 which placed him 6th.  Three O-State hurdlers hit the SUNYAC mark, as well.  Freshman Tye Thompson placed 4th in 8.27, sophomore Rich Kardas was 9th in 8.45, and freshman Mike Barry was 11th in 8.55.

St. Lawrence University Indoor Classic - Saturday, January 20, 2007

The Red Dragons placed 2nd with a score of 66 to 98 in a dual meet with the host Saints.  O-State won 5 individual events on the day and 1 relay.  Senior Jeremy Cline won the triple jump with a leap of 12.93 meters.  Classmate Adam Remillard won the long jump with a mark of 6.51 meters.  Sophomore Eric Theiss won the 200 in a time of 23.03 seconds.  Freshmen Tye Thompson and Nick Pampena each recorded wins, as well.  Thompson took the 55 hurdles in a time of 8.33 while Pampena was victorious in the 800 with a personal best time of 2:06.24 by 3 seconds.  He later teamed with junior Alex Grout and seniors Matt Durkin and Rick DeCarr in winning the 4x400 relay in a time of 3:40.42.  Sophomore Marty Nicholson hit the SUNYAC standard in the 3,000 with a 2nd place finish in a personal best time of 9:14.92.  Freshmen Fred Romer and Mike Barry also hit SUNYAC marks.  Romer placed 2nd in the 400 in a time of 52.52 while Barry placed 3rd in the 55 hurdles in a time of 8.74.

New Balance NYC Gotham Cup @ NY Armory - Friday, January 12, 2007

Four mid-distance/distance runners traveled to New York's famed Armory to compete at the highly competitive early season New Balance Gotham Cup.  Junior Alex Grout placed 15th in the 3,000 meters (2nd in heat) in a personal best and ECAC qualifying time of 8:54.98.  Senior Matt Durkin placed 36th in the same event in a time of 9:18.67 while freshman Nick Pampena placed 44th in a personal best time of 9:27.60.  Sophomore Marty Nicholson had an impressive run the in 5,000, placing 10th in a personal best and SUNYAC qualifying time of 15:49.39.

St. Lawrence University Holiday Relays – Saturday, December 9, 2006

Oneonta State closed out 2006 with a solid showing at the annual Holiday Relays.  Sophomore Eric Theiss hit three ECAC standards on the day.  Theiss won the 55 meter dash in a personal best time of 6.64 seconds.  He followed that with a 2nd place finish in the 400 in another personal best time of 49.77.  He narrowly missed the NCAA provisional mark by .17 seconds in beating his previous personal best by nearly a full second.  He closed the day by leading off the 4x200 meter relay which placed 4th in a time of 1:35.35.  Freshmen Tim Steinhofer and Tye Thompson and sophomore Shane Raymo teamed with Theiss on the ECAC qualifying time.  Thompson took the win in the 55 hurdles with a time of 8.22 seconds.  Sophomore Rich Kardas was right behind in taking 2nd in a time of 8.41.  Both men hit the SUNYAC standard and set personal bests.  Senior Adam Remillard took wins in both horizontal jumps.  He started the day in leaping 6.62 meters in the long jump and finished in winning the triple jump with a jump of 13.31 meters on his last attempt.  Both marks were ECAC qualifiers with the triple jump being a personal best.  Classmate Jeremy Cline took 2nd in the triple with a mark of 13.08 meters and 3rd in the long jump with a leap of 6.19 meters, good for SUNYAC qualification in both events.  His long jump mark was a personal best.

Cornell University Relays – Saturday, December 2, 2006

The Red Dragons opened the indoor season at Cornell University’s Barton Hall.  Sophomore Joe Reed started the year off right by breaking the school record and hitting the NCAA provisional standard in the 60 meter dash.  His time of 6.93 in the finals placed him 4th in an extremely competitive field.  Classmate Eric Theiss placed 15th in the 60, as well in a SUNAYC qualifying time of 7.19.  Theiss also placed 3rd overall in the 200 meters.  His time of 22.89 was a SUNYAC and ECAC qualifier.  Freshman Tim Steinhofer placed 22nd in the same event with a time of 24.17 to hit the SUNYAC mark.  Seniors Jeremy Cline and Adam Remillard had a great day in the sand pits as both hit ECAC standards.  Cline placed 4th in the triple jump with a leap of 13.32 meters.  Remillard placed 9th in the same event with a leap of 12.93 meters, good enough for SUNYAC qualification.  He started the day with his ECAC qualifier in the long jump where he leapt 6.79 meters to place 7th overall.   Sophomore Angelo Posillico made his presence felt in the weight throw.  In only his second year throwing, Posillico improved by over 2 meters in tossing the 35 pound implement 12.52 meters, good enough for 21st place and SUNYAC qualification.  Back on the track, freshman Tye Thompson set the school record in the 60 meter hurdles in a time of 9.01 seconds.  That placed him 10th overall and hit the SUNYAC standard.  In the same event, sophomore Rich Kardas placed 15th, with a personal best of 9.15 which also hit the SUNYAC mark.  In the 500 meters, freshman Fred Romer placed 5th with an ECAC qualifier time of 1:08.17.
