Atlantic Regional Qualifier - Saturday, November 11 The Red Dragons placed 28th out of 29 teams with 833 points in the final meet of the year. However, they had 5 out of 6 runners run their personal best times. Freshman Sean McCormick was the first to cross the line for Oneonta (for all 9 races this season) in 118th place. He ran 27:46 for the fast 8,000 meter course. Junior Lee Lurie and freshman Dan Verdi turned in exceptional performances while displaying great teamwork. They finished in 166th and 169th with times of 29:02 and 29:06, respectively. Both were huge personal bests. Sophomore Eric Duffy, who was hampered by illness, and freshman Adam Moscicki also worked great together. They finished 200th and 201st with times of 31:54 and 31:55, respectively. For Adam, it was a PR by almost 2 minutes! Also finishing in a personal best time of 33:56, was sophomore Gerald Cajina in 204th.

SUNYAC Championships @ Oswego - Saturday, October 21 The Red Dragons placed 9th out of 9 schools with 284 points. They were led by freshman Sean McCormick in 63rd place in a time of 29:51. Junior Lee Lurie was next in 77th place in a time of 30:37 (:54 faster than 9/9). Freshman Dan Verdi followed Lurie in 88th with a time of 31:24 (a 3:27 improvement from 9/9). Sophomore Eric Duffy was on his heals in 89th place in a time of 31:39. Sophomore Gerald Cajina finished 99th in 35:48 and freshman Adam Moscicki, hampered by an ankle injury, finished in 100th (36:27).
University at Albany Invitational - Saturday, October 14 The Red Dragons placed 14th out of 15 schools with 384 points in their final tune-up before the SUNYAC Championships next week as Oswego. Freshman Sean McCormick was first across the line for Oneonta in 73rd place in a time of 29:59. He was followed by Lee Lurie (95th-31:31), Dan Verdi (102nd-32:19), Adam Moscicki (120th-35:56), and Gerald Cajina (122nd-36:39).
Hawk Harrier Classic @ New Paltz - Saturday, October 7 5 Red Dragons had their best times of the year while placing 4th out of 4 teams with 119 points. Freshman Sean McCormick again led the Oneonta attack despite being hampered by a head cold. He finished 16th in 29:40. Making breakthroughs were sophomore Eric Duffy, junior Lee Lurie, and freshman Dan Verdi. They ran 30:48 (24th), 30:53 (25th), and 31:38 (30th), respectively. Other Oneonta finishers were Adam Moscicki (41st-34:58) and Gerald Cajina (43rd-36:14).
Delhi Weekday 5K Classic - Tuesday, October 3 In a low-key double dual meet, the Red Dragons lost to Delhi College (49-15) and Hartwick College (42-20). Freshman Sean McCormick led the way with a 6th place finish with a time of 18:02 for the 5K course. Other Red Dragon finishers were Lee Lurie (16th-18:53), Eric Duffy (18th-19:26), Dan Verdi (19th-19:53), Adam Moscicki (22nd-20:19), and Gerald Cajina (29th-21:05).
Cardinal Classic @ St. John Fisher - Saturday, September 23 Despite braving an early morning thunderstorm, The Red Dragons finished 9th out of 11 schools with 225 points. Freshman Sean McCormick again paced the team with a 20th place finish in a time of 30:03. Other Red Dragon finishers were Lee Lurie (45th-32:07), Eric Duffy (63rd-33:44), Dan Verdi (70th-34:48), Adam Moscicki (77th-35:07), Doug Jones (81st-37:14), and Gerald Cajina (82nd-37:29).
Hartwick College Invitational - Saturday, September 16 The Red Dragons traveled across West Street to visit their rivals on the hill, Hartwick College. They placed 5th out of 5 schools with 121 points. Freshman Sean McCormick led the way with a 13th place finish in a time of 24:45 over the 4 mile course. Sophomore Eric Duffy made his season debut with a 27th place finish in a time of 27:12. He was closely followed by junior teammate, Lee Lurie, who placed 28th in 27:14. Other Red Dragon finishers were Dan Verdi (34th-28:39), Adam Moscicki (41st-30:49), and Gerald Cajina (44th-32:57).
Pat Peterson Invitational @ Oswego - Saturday, September 9 Oneonta State opened up their 2000 season with a 14th place finish at the competitive Pat Peterson Invitational. The Red Dragons scored 386 points and were led by freshman Sean McCormick. He ran 28:54 for 8K to finish in 46th place in his collegiate debut. Other Red Dragon finishers were Lee Lurie (112th-31:31), Steve Burns (141st-33:59), Dan Verdi (142nd-34:51), Doug Jones (149th-36:33), and Gerald Cajina (152nd-39:12). |
