NCAA Championships
@ Wartburg College (IA) Saturday, May 28, 2005 Senior Ashlee Robertson earned her 4th All-American plaque of her career as she placed 3rd in the 400 meters. She became the first women in school history to earn outdoor All-American honors. Her time of 55.16 destroyed her own school record of 55.82 set last week at ECAC's. It is also the highest she has ever placed at the NCAA Championships. Junior Musu Jackson-Buckner claimed her 1st All-American honor of her career by placing 4th in the 200 meters with a time of 24.53. She came into the meet as the #5 seed. The duo's 11 points placed O-State in a tie for 22nd in the team standings, the highest ever for the women's program. "I am very satisfied with our performances this weekend," commented head coach Matt LoPiccolo. "Ashlee and Musu once again represented the team with great distinction. This time, it was at the biggest meet of the year." NCAA Finals: 200 meters: 4th - Musu Jackson-Buckner (JR), 24.53 400 meters: 3rd - Ashlee Robertson (SR), 55.16(SR) Friday, May 27, 2005 Senior Ashlee Robertson advanced to the finals of the 400 meters at the NCAA Championships by winning her heat of the preliminaries. Her 56.14 second clocking has seeded 2nd going into Saturday's final slated for 2:20pm CT, where she'll run in lane 5. Junior Musu Jackson-Buckner placed 10th in the prelims of the 100 meters. Her time of 12.16 placed her 3rd in her heat. The top 8 advanced to Saturday's final. However, she will be running in the finals of the 200 meters on Saturday at 3:34pm, where she is the top seed. NCAA Preliminaries: 100 meters: 10th - Musu Jackson-Buckner (JR), 12.16 400 meters: 2nd - Ashlee Robertson (SR), 56.14 Thursday, May 26, 2005 Junior Musu Jackson-Buckner advanced to Saturday's NCAA final in the 200 meters by winning her preliminary heat on Thursday. Her time of 24.46 broke her own school record of 24.60 set back on April 30th at the SUNYAC Championships at Oneonta. It was also the fastest time of the day which will give her lane 4 in Saturday's final set for 3:45pm CT. Senior Ashlee Robertson placed tied for 10th in the 200, as well. Her time of 25.22 placed her 4th in her heat. The top 8 advanced to Saturday's final. Robertson will run the preliminaries of the 400 meters on Friday at 6:25pm. She is the #3 seed in the event. Jackson-Buckner will look to advance to the finals in her 2nd event of the meet, as she runs the prelims of the 100 meters at 5:55pm on Friday, where she is the #5 seed. NCAA Preliminaries: 200 meters: 1st - Musu Jackson-Buckner (JR), 24.46 (SR); 10th(tie) - Ashlee Robertson (SR), 25.22 ECAC Championships @ Springfield College (MA) - Thursday-Friday, May 19-20, 2005 ECAC TEAM CHAMPIONS! The Red Dragons pulled off an unlikely victory by posting 48 points to outdistance New Jersey City University by 5 points. There were 50 teams at the Championships. "I was shocked when I saw the team results," commented head coach Matt LoPiccolo. "I had to read them over and over to believe it. Mike Schmidt (associate head coach) and I were hoping to get in the top 3 and earn a plaque, but this is absolutely incredible!" Individual ECAC titles were won by junior Musu Jackson-Buckner and senior Ashlee Robertson. Jackson-Buckner took the win in the 100 meters in a time of 12.24 seconds. Robertson ran a school record and NCAA automatic qualifying time of 55.82 in winning the 400 meters. The duo then placed 2nd and 3rd in the 200 meters with Jackson-Buckner running 25.13 and Robertson running 25.32. They also teamed together with sophomore Maureen Verdier and freshman Mary Velan to place 2nd in the 4x100 relay in an NCAA provisional qualifying and school record time of 48.12. Velan picked up a point for the team by placing 8th in the 800 in a personal best time of 2:17.27. Sophomore Kaitlin O'Sullivan placed 10th in the 800 in 2:18.28. She teamed with Verdier, Jackson-Buckner, and Robertson to place 4th in the 4x400 relay in 3:56.54, an NCAA provisonal qualifying time. Verdier placed 10th in the 400 hurdles in 1:06.06 while senior Kim Davey rounded out her college career by placing 16th in the 10,000 meters in a time of 42:00.10. For her efforts, Musu Jackson-Buckner was named the Outstanding Female Athlete Of The Meet. On the day, she scored 21.25 total points, followed closely by Ashlee Robertson who scored 19.25. Sophomore Maureen Verdier turned in the race of the day by winning the 400 meter hurdles in an NCAA Provisional qualifying time of 1:03.88. Her time also broke the school, meet, and track records. Verdier also ran 3rd leg on the the victorious 4x400 meter relay which also set school, meet, and track records, as well as hitting the NCAA Provisional standard. Senior Ashlee Robertson anchored the relay with a 55.3 second split. She also won the 100 in an ECAC qualifying time of 12.64. Musu Jackson-Buckner led off the relay in addition to winning the long jump. Her mark of 5.22 meters was a school record and ECAC qualifying distance, in just her 2nd collegiate long jump competition. Freshman Mary Velan ran the 2nd leg on the 4x400, as well as winning the 800 meters in an ECAC qualifying time of 2:20.36. Sophomore Kaitlin O'Sullivan booked her trip to ECAC's in the same event by placing 3rd in a time of 2:21.07. Junior Musu Jackson-Buckner won 4 events on the day, the 100 and 200 meters plus both the 4x100 and 4x400 relays. She set meet records in the 100 (11.97) and 200 (24.60) with the 100 time qualifying her automatically for the NCAA Championships and the 200 time reaching the NCAA Provisional mark. Senior Ashlee Robertson anchored both relays to the victory with the 4x100 time hitting the NCAA Provisional mark. She defended her title in the 400 meters with a meet record and NCAA Provisional qualifying time of 56.03. She added a 2nd place in the 200 meters with an NCAA Provisional qualifying time of 24.90. Freshman Mary Velan ran the 2nd and 3rd legs on both the 4x400 and 4x100. She also placed 2nd in the 800 meters with an ECAC qualifying time of 2:20.63. Sophomore Kaitlin O'Sullivan ran the 3rd leg on the victorious 4x400 relay and placed 3rd in the 800 meters with a personal best time of 2:21.42. Classmate Maureen Verdier earned Iron-Woman of the meet kudos. She ran 7 races in the less 24 hours. She led-off the winning 4x100 relay, placed 3rd in the 100 hurdles in 15.73, placed 3rd in the 400 hurdles on 1:05.15, and placed 6th in the 100 meters in 12.89. All times were personal bests and ECAC qualifying marks. Senior Kim Davey took 5th in the 10,000 meters with a school record and ECAC qualifying time of 40:42.84. Her time was 4 minutes and 15 seconds faster than her personal best from last year. Freshman Janelle Bashant placed 6th in the 100 meter hurdles in a personal best time of 16.56. Junior Erin Putnam and Sophomore Kaci Duffy rounded out the scoring for O-State by placing 8th in the 400 meters and shot put, respectively. Junior Musu Jackson-Buckner and senior Ashlee Robertson went 1-2 in both the 100 and 200 meters, with both running fast times. They also teamed with sophomore Maureen Verdier and freshman Mary Velan to win the 4x100 relay. Velan teamed with sophomore Kaitlin O'Sullivan and freshmen Janelle Bashant and Casey Gillham to win the 4x400 relay, as well. O'Sullivan was 2nd across the line in the 1,500 running a collegiate best time of 4:59.0. It was her first race since mid-January when she was setback by injury. Freshman Kristen Rohne won the 3,000 steeplechase for her first collegiate win. The Red Dragons play host to the SUNYAC Championships this coming Friday and Saturday beginning at 2:00pm and 10:00am, respectively. However, this time around, she added an NCAA provisional mark in the 200 meters. She placed placed 2nd in the event with a time of 25.35, narrowly eclipsing the NCAA mark of 25.40 and the school record of 25.38 held by Ashlee Robertson set last May at MIT. Her time of 12.30 in the 100 was merely 12 hundredths slower than last week. However, she was running into a tremendous head wind. She also ran 2nd leg on the 4x100 relay team of sophomore Maureen Verdier, freshman Mary Velan, and junior Erin Putnam. The quartet placed 2nd overall in a time of 50.78, good enough for a school record and ECAC qualification. Verdier took the win in the 100 meter hurdles in a time of 16.12 into the stiff head wind, which met the ECAC standard. She also placed 4th in the 100 with a SUNYAC qualifying time of 13.06. Velan took 3rd in the 400 with a SUNYAC qualifying time of 1:01.73. Freshman Janelle Bashant placed 6th in the 100 hurdles. She improved her SUNYAC qualifying time by running 17.19 seconds. Senior Kim Davey placed 2nd in the 3,000 meters in a personal best time of 11:04.36. The Red Dragons start a three weekend home stand on the 23rd of April with the O-State Invitational, which starts at noon at All College Track & Field Facility. Junior Musu Jackson-Buckner picked up where she left off indoors as she hit the NCAA Provisional standard in the 100 meters. Her time of 12.18 was good enough to win the DII & DIII competition, as well as break the school record of 12.56 set by Ashlee Robertson last year at Delaware. Jackson-Buckner also won the 200 for DII & DIII in an ECAC qualifying time of 25.42. Sophomore Kerry Gramlich placed 4th in the triple jump with a leap of 9.47 meters. Classmates Kaci Duffy and Caitlyn Fanning placed 8th and 11th, respectively, in the discus and javelin. Both hit the SUNYAC standard as Duffy threw 30.19 meters and Fanning threw 27.04 meters. Freshman Janelle Bashant improved her SUNYAC qualifying time in the 100 hurdles by running 17.44 in placing 8th. NCAA Championships @ Illinois Wesleyan Saturday, March 12, 2005 Senior Ashlee Robertson earned her 3rd All-American plaque of her career by placing 5th in the 400 meters in a time of 58.16. She was seeded 6th going into the 2 section final. She won her heat and narrowing missed 4th place by .10 seconds. Her 4 points placed Oneonta in a tie for 40th in the country. I couldn't be happier for her!" 400 meters: 5th - Ashlee Robertson (SR) - 58.16 Friday, March 11, 2005 Senior Ashlee Robertson will make a return trip to the NCAA finals of the 400 meters on Saturday. She placed 2nd in her heat and 6th overall in a time of 57.98. The 2-Time 2004 All-American will compete for another one at 4:45pm CT on Saturday in the first section of the 2 section final. She also anchored the 4x400 meter relay of junior Musu Jackson-Buckner, sophomore Maureen Verdier, and freshman Mary Velan. The quartet placed 10th overall and 3rd in their heat in a time of 4:00.72. Jackson-Buckner split 59.8, Verdier followed with a 61.2, Velan split 60.6, and Robertson came home in 58.9. Robertson crossed the line in the 400 meters in 57.79 seconds, almost a full second ahead of the 2nd place finisher. She also placed 3rd in the 200 meters in 25.78. Junior Musu Jackson-Buckner placed 2nd in the same event with a time of 25.42. Jackson-Buckner also placed 5th in the 55 meters in a time of 7.33. Sophomore Maureen Verdier placed 6th in the 55 as well, with a time of 7.46. She also placed 9th in the 55 hurdles in a time of 8.82 and 15th in the 200 with a time of 26.95. Freshman Mary Velan placed 4th in the 800 meters in a time of 2:19.99. The quartet of junior Musu Jackson-Buckner, sophomore Maureen Verdier, freshman Mary Velan, and senior Ashlee Robertson placed 5th in the 4x400 with an NCAA provisional time of 3:56.51. Earlier in the day, both Robertson and Velan placed 7th in their respective events. Robertson ran the 400 in 58.29, while Velan ran the 800 in 2:19.88. Junior Erin Putnam ran a personal best and ECAC qualifying time of 1:22.93 in the 500 meters. Senior Kim Davey set a new school record in the 3,000 meters, placing 21st in a time of 11:06.46. She broke Kaitlin O'Sullivan's record of 11:12.89 set back in December. SUNYAC Championships @ Hobart/William Smith Colleges - Saturday, February 19, 2005 After losing 3 All-Americans after the 2004 campaign, it appeared to be difficult to repeat last year's performance at the SUNYAC Championships, where the Red Dragons finished an impressive 3rd place overall. However, for the second straight year, O-State accomplished the improbable and finished 3rd behind Geneseo and Cortland. They were led by junior Musu Jackson-Buckner, senior Ashlee Robertson and sophomore Maureen Verdier. This trio combined to score 62 of the team’s 82 total points on the day. Jackson-Buckner took home individual titles in the 55 and 200-meter dashes along with running the opening leg on the 4x400-meter relay that was crowned conference champion. In qualifying for the 55 final she set a meet record and nearly reached the automatic standard in the event for the NCAA meet running a time of 7.19. She set another meet record in winning the 200 with a time of 25.21 bettering the old mark by four-tenths of a second. Robertson successfully defended her title in the 400 meters while placing second in the 200. She ran a sensational anchor leg (57.9), coming from behind to win the 4x400 relay in a time of 4:04.69. Verdier placed 2nd in the 55 and 3rd in the 55-meter hurdles both in personal best and ECAC qualifying times of 7.42 and 8.79, respectively. She ran the 2nd leg on the 4x400 relay. The trio was joined by junior Erin Putnam, who ran the 3rd leg of the relay. She also placed 6th in the 400 meters in a personal best time of 1:03.42. Freshman Mary Velan finished 3rd in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:25.48 and 5th in the 400 in a time of 1:01.79. Velan teamed with classmates Casey Gillham and Alex Bowe, along with junior Maria Compson to place 5th in the 3200 meter relay. Sophomore Amanda Villari anchored the Distance Medley Relay of Gillham, Compson, and Bowe to a 6th place finish, as well. The team attended the MIT Co-Ed Invitational and Boston University's St. Valentine Invitational. Sophomore Kelly Huth was the highest placer on the day, taking 2nd in the shot put with a throw of 10.66 meters at MIT. Her toss was a season's best and SUNYAC qualifier. Senior Kim Davey placed 3rd in the 5,000 with a school record and SUNYAC qualifying time of 19:58.59. Three miles away, over at BU, a quartet of Red Dragons were lighting up the track. Senior Ashlee Robertson got the day started with a 5th place finish in the 400. Her time of 56.94, qualified her for NCAA's provisionally and is currently the fastest time in the country in Division III. Sophomore Maureen Verdier followed with a personal best and ECAC qualifying time of 26.93 seconds in placing 60th in the 200 meters. Freshman Mary Velan finished out the individual events for the day with a 21st place finish in the 800 meters. Running in her first 800 of her collegiate career, Velan qualified provisionally for the NCAA Championships with a time of 2:17.56. The 3 women joined forced with junior Musu Jackson-Buckner to win their heat and place 10th overall in the 4x400 meter relay. Their time of 3:54.76 hit the NCAA provisional mark and shattered the school record of 3:58.55 set last February by Robertson, Verdier and All-Americans Kelly Stevens and Rose Velan. Colgate University Class of '32 Invitational - Saturday, February 5, 2005 Oneonta State placed 4th out of 9 teams with 51 points as junior Musu Jackson-Buckner hit the NCAA Provisional standard in winning 55 meter dash. Her time of 7.31 from the semi-finals eclipsed the mark of 7.32. Senior Ashlee Robertson was hot on her heals in taking second in a personal best time of 7.42. The duo placed 1-2 in the 200 meters, as well, with Jackson-Buckner running 25.81 and Robertson at 25.83. Sophomore Kaci Duffy placed 3rd in the weight throw with a personal best toss of 11.04 meters. That throw bettered her SUNYAC qualifying mark from last week. Duffy also placed 5th in the shot put with a throw of 9.90 meters. Senior Kim Davey had a huge personal best, as well. She placed 4th overall in 3,000 meters in 11:13.10, which improved her SUNYAC qualifying time. Sophomore Maureen Verdier tied her PR in the 55 hurdles, taking 5th place in a SUNYAC qualifying time of 9.13. For her efforts, Musu Jackson-Buckner was named the Katie Almeter Female MVP of the meet. The award is named for Katie Almeter, who was Colgate's top sprint recruit in the fall of 2000. She was from Norwich, NY and was killed in a drunk driving accident, along with her two high school best friends, the fall of her freshman year. Katie's father, Bob Almeter, was on hand to present the award. The sprint core of senior Ashlee Robertson, junior Musu Jackson-Buckner and sophomore Maureen Verdier placed in the top 5 in both the 55 and 200 meters. Running in her first meet for O-State, junior transfer Jackson-Buckner won the 200 meters and placed 2nd in the 55 dash. Her times 25.54 and 7.37, respectively, qualified her for both ECAC's and SUNYAC's. Robertson placed 2nd in the 200 and 3rd in the 55 with early season best times of 25.74 and 7.43, respectively, which also hit the ECAC and SUNYAC standards. Verdier finished 5th in both events in SUNYAC qualifying times of 7.61 (55) and 27.33 (200). Freshman Mary Velan made her individual event debut for the Red Dragons and took the win in the 600 meters in 1:41.90. Her time eclipsed the school record of 1:43.68 set last year at the same meet by her sister Rose Velan. On the day, O-State had 12 total SUNYAC qualifying marks. Sophomore Kaitlin O'Sullivan led the way with an 8th place finish in the 500 meters. Her personal best time of 1:22.50 not only qualified her for SUNYAC's, but ECAC's as well. Classmate Maureen Verdier had her own PR in the 200 meters, as she placed 19th in a SUNYAC qualifying time of 27.34. Senior Ashlee Robertson provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships in winning the 400 meters. Her time of 57.85 outdistanced her nearest competitor by over 3 seconds. She added a victory in the 55 meters with an ECAC qualifying time of 7.43 in her semi-final heat. Sophomore Maureen Verdier ran a personal best in the semi's of 55 with a time of 7.51, which missed ECAC's by .01. Oneonta State ended up going 1-2 in that event as Verdier crossed the line right behind Robertson in the final. Verdier also qualified for SUNYAC's in the 400 meters by placing 4th in a time of 1:04.98. Sophomore Kerry Gramlich picked up the victory in the triple jump. Her leap of 9.82 meters (32' 2 3/4") was good enough for a personal best and SUNYAC qualifying. Senior Kim Davey set a new school record in the 5,000 meters. Her time of 20:07.55 also qualified her for SUNYAC's. Senior Ashlee Robertson picked up right where she ended her junior year where she was a 2-time All-American indoors. This weekend, she won the 300 meters in a school record time of 41.46, demolishing her own mark of 42.18 set at Syracuse in February of 2003. She also placed 3rd in the 60 meter dash with another school record time of 7.97, missing the NCAA Provisional mark by .12. Sophomore Kaitlin O'Sullivan set a school record in the 3,000 meters placing 4th in a time of 11:12.89, which qualified her for the SUNYAC Championships. Classmate Maureen Verdier placed 13th in the 60 meter hurdles. Her time of 9.77 in the semi-finals broke her own school record and qualified her for SUNYAC's. Kelly Huth, another sophomore, qualified for SUNYAC's in both the shot put and weight throw with tosses of 10.10 meters and 10.44 meters, respectively, that placed her 10th and 14th.
