NCAA Atlantic Regional Championship @ St. Lawrence - Saturday, November 13, 2004

Oneonta State placed 15th out of 26 teams with 458 points to finish off the 2004 season.  It was the highest place finish in the Atlantic Regional for the women under head coach Matt LoPiccolo.  The Red Dragons finished as the 5th SUNYAC school, avenging losses to Cortland and New Paltz earlier in the season.  Sophomore Kaitlin O’Sullivan broke her own school record over 6,000 meters that she set just last week at the ECAC Championships.  She placed 53rd overall in a time of 24:11.  Senior Kim Davey finished her Oneonta State Cross Country career with a personal best of 25:03 in placing 96th.  Sophomore Laura Ewald placed 108th in a personal best time of 25:21, after resting an injury last week.  Queensbury High teammates, freshman Kristen Rohne and junior Maria Compson, ran in tandem most of the way and finished in 118th and 119th, respectively with times of 25:30 and 25:31.  It was a personal best for Rohne.  Freshmen Devon Wooten and Casey Gillham closed out the pack for O-State in 143rd and 144th, respectively.  Wooten ran a personal best time of 26:02, despite battling bronchitis in the weeks before, and Gillham finished in a time of 26:05.

ECAC Championship @ Tufts University Farm Course - Saturday, November 6, 2004

Oneonta State placed 8th out of 24 teams with 295 points.  Sophomore Kaitlin O'Sullivan set a school record time for 6,000 meters, as 6 Red Dragons ran personal bests.  She placed 30th overall in a time of 24:27.  Junior Maria Compson, senior Kim Davey, and freshman Kristen Rohne ran in a tight pack most of the way and all 3 finished with PR's.  Compson was 65th in 25:25, Davey was 69th in 25:30, and Rohne placed 72nd in 25:35.  Rounding out the scoring was freshman Casey Gillham in 82nd place with a personal best time of 25:53.  Sophomores Amanda Villari and Hilary Brosnihan finished in 90th and 104th, respectively, in 26:06 (personal best) and 26:35.

The Red Dragons scored 183 points and finished in 7th place out of 9 complete teams.  Senior Kim Davey turned in the race of her life in leading O-State.  She crossed the line in 34th place in a time of 25:34, good for a personal best over 6,000 meters.  She was followed by sophomore Kaitlin O'Sullivan, junior Maria Compson, freshman Devon Wooten, and sophomore Hilary Brosnihan.  They finished in 41st, 47th, 50th, and 53rd places in time of 25:52, 26:17, 26:24, and 26:28, respectively.

Oneonta finished in 5th place out of 7 complete teams with 187 points.  There were three Division II teams that placed ahead of them. Sophomore Kaitlin O'Sullivan placed 23rd in a time of 16:32 over the 4,000 meter course to pace O-State.  Senior Kim Davey turned her best race as a Red Dragon in being the 3rd scoring woman in 39th with a time of 17:18.

O-State placed 7th out of 11th schools with 199 points.  Freshman Devon Wooten led the Red Dragons for the first time this season, placing 38th in a time of 20:25 over the 3 mile course.  Junior Maria Compson turned in her strongest performance of the year in finishing 10 seconds back in 44th place.  Wooten's classmate, Kristen Rohne, followed Compson across the line in 48th with a time of 20:40.  Senior Kim Davey and sophomore Amanda Villari followed in 53rd and 60th places, respectively, in times of 20:47 and 21:01.

The Red Dragons placed tied for 11th out of 17 teams with 325 points at the highly competitive Pre-Atlantic Regional Invitational at St. Lawrence University.  Sophomore Kaitlin O'Sullivan led the way in 58th place with a personal best time of 25:46 over the 6,000 meter course.  Freshmen Devon Wooten and Kristen Rohne followed in 75th and 93rd, respectively, in times of 26:12 and 26:54.  Sophomore Amanda Villari had her best race of the year placing 95th in a time of 26:57, while classmate Laura Ewald rounded out the scoring in 98th place, with a time of 26:59.

Oneonta State Airfield Invitational - Saturday, September 18, 2004

The rains of Hurricane Ivan wreaked havoc on the Fortin Park Airfield Course, as the Red Dragons placed 4th out of 5 schools with 108 points.  Sophomore Laura Ewald led the way for the 1st time this year, placing 23rd with a time of 24:58 over the flood shortened 6,000 meter course.  Freshmen Devon Wooten and Kristen Rohne placed 27th and 31st in times of 25:16 and 25:33, respectively.  Senior Kim Davey and junior Maria Compson finished the scoring for the Red Dragons in 36th and 37th place, respectively, with times of 25:42 and 25:49.  "The women ran tough today in horrendous conditions," commented head coach Matt LoPiccolo.  "We needed some people to step up and we got it.  Laura (Ewald) and Kristen (Rohne) ran their best races of the year so far."

Hartwick College Invitational - Saturday, September 11, 2004


The Red Dragons dominated the field in taking home the team title, as well as the individual title.  They placed 1st out of 4 teams with 23 points, while taking 7 of the top 10 spots.  Sophomore Kaitlin O'Sullivan won the individual race over the newly redesigned 5 km course in a time of 19:18.  It was the first time that a woman has won an individual cross country race in Coach Matt LoPiccolo's 5 year tenure.  "Kaitlin ran away from everyone today," commented LoPiccolo.  "She is a totally different runner this year.  I expect good things from her."  The rest of the top 7 weren't too shabby either, as they took places 5 through 10.  Freshman Devon Wooten, sophomore Laura Ewald, senior Kim Davey, junior Maria Compson, freshman Kristen Rohne, and sophomore Amanda Villari all finished within 28 seconds of each other.

SUNY Brockport Kick-Off Classic - Saturday, September 4, 2004

The Oneonta State women's cross country team opened the 2004 season with a 5th place finish out of 7 schools with 139 points at the Brockport Kick-Off Classic.  Sophomore Kaitlin O'Sullivan led the way for the Red Dragons in 14th place with a time of 16:57 over the 4,000 meter course.  She was followed by freshman Devon Wooten, who in her first ever cross country race, placed 24th in a time of 17:21.  Sophomore Laura Ewald (30th - 17:48), senior Kim Davey (37th - 18:18), and sophomore Mallory Baughman (38th - 18:22) finished the scoring for Oneonta.
