Video Art

~ Use a pair of headphones for this assignment ~

Assignment:

Create an original video collage using a combination of commercially available video clips.

Your video should be no longer than 2 minutes (less is preferable).

Use at least three different video sources and combine them to create a new whole. Pay attention to the transition between the different clips and the way the images interact from one scene to another to create a new meaning. Keep your cuts as short as possible and edit out all unnecessary scenes. Also pay attention to the way sound overlaps and affects the images. Mixing sound with music can be particularly effective.

Use iMovie to complete this assignment. While other software like Final Cut Pro, Premiere, or After Effects offer a wide variety of tools, they have a steeper learning curve.

Technicalities:

  • Create your movie as a"DV Widescreen" format when you first start the project.
  • Download clips from the internet for this assignment.
  • drag and drop the saved clips into imovie's library and then place it into the timeline. Use the techniques demonstrated in class to cut, move, and delete different scenes.

What to submit:

Export your finished video project into iDVD and submit this DVD-ROM.
