ARTH 294 GREEK ART IN CONTEXT This is an Art History course that allows students to explore Greek Art and Architecture in context. Students will explore several topics pertaining to Greek Art through museum and site visits while touring the country of Greece. Topics revolve around Ancient Greek Art history and the cultural output of different eras. Bronze Age, Mycenaean, Archaic, Classical, and Hellenistic Art will be discussed and explored through a variety of lectures, museum and archaeological site visits. Prerequisite: Permission of Instructor.

Topics include: Athenian city and culture • Overview of Greek history • The Acropolis • Art and the development towards the Golden Age • Mycenaean, Archaic, Classical, Hellenistic Art overview • The evolution of human figure in Greek Sculpture • The influence of the sea • Delphi Oracle • Religion and Politics • Olympia sanctuary • Olympic Games • Epidaurus: Religion, Medicine and Art • Theatre Architecture • Mycenaean Art and Architecture
CART 211 DIGITAL LANDSCAPE PHOTOGRAPHY
Concepts of Digital Landscape photography including the historical, conceptual, and aesthetic considerations. Students will learn to see potential images and develop them into visual statements of personal expression. Each student will produce a small portfolio of related works. This course will involve travel to specified locations in Greece to photograph the landscape. Prerequisite: Permission of Instructor.
Credits: 3
Students who enroll in this studio course must sign up for the cruise extension of the tour, and must bring their own digital camera. A portable computer is optional but strongly recommended.
NON-CREDIT PARTICIPANTS do not have to do any of the class assignments.

Thomás is a native of
Greece, and an artist whose work in stone is
inspired by Ancient Greek Art. He has studied
the history, styles, and technique of Greek
Art and is the author of Ancient-Greece.org.
Thomás has photographed the landscapes and ancient artifacts of Greece extensively and his photographs have been published in magazines and textbooks. He is the author of GreekLandscapes.com
The tour is organized and is subject to the terms and conditions of EF College Study Tours.
To ensure the lowest possible travel
fare the trip might take place up to four days earlier or
later than the targeted departure date, and it can be substituted for one of the alternate tour choices.
The final travel itinerary will be determined by EF
Tours in February ‘10.
Alternative Tours
EFtour's conditions require that we define two alternative tours we can join in case our first choice is not available. The final decision will be made by EFtours in February 2010. All participants must have professor Sakoulas' permission to enroll in this tour.
Participants must complete all the mandatory forms of the SUNY Oneonta Study-Abroad Programs and must hold a valid passport.
All participants (for-credit or not-for-credit) must submit a completed SUNY Overseas Academic Program Student Health Information Form prior to being issued a plane ticket. Part of this form needs to be completed by a physician or the SUNY Oneonta Health Center.

First time participants will pay a $95 EFtours Lifetime Membership Fee
For members this Membership Fee is applied towards their travel fees.

The SUNY travel insurance is recommended for all participants. EFtours, the travel agen, provides travel insurance options as well for $65. Read the terms of both insurance options before you purchase your travel insurance.
Participants who are covered by their own insurance can waive this requirement by completing the appropriate forms and providing proof of adequate insurance. In this case, participants pay a Repatriation/Medical Evaluation fee only which is approximately $5 (proof of adequate health insurance
coverage is required to purchase
this option).
Spending Money

Optional fees:
Participants can join a tentative cruise extension at the end of the tour for $475
Joining the optional 3-day cruise extension is mandatory for students enrolled in CART211, and optional for all others. The cruise extension includes: 1 cabin accommodations for 3 nights and 3 meals daily.
Participants can join an optional "Greek Night" event for $70.
Participants can request to either "stay-ahead", "stay-behind" (professor Sakoulas will stay-behind after the group departs from Greece), or to fly through alternative gateways for an extra fee.
