Course Description:  This course is required to obtain NYS coaching certification.  It is a course intended to teach coaches about the various aspects of athletic training.  Topics include the following areas: injury recognition, prevention, rehabilitation, conditioning, and legal issues.  To accomplish this we will journey into the subjects of anatomy, exercise physiology, biomechanics, and kinesiology.

Lab:  Section 1 will meet Tuesday.  Section 2 will meet Thursday.  Both will begin promptly at 12:00pm.  The meeting place will be in the Chase Physical Education Building Training Room.   Lab will consist of different taping and wrapping procedures as well as other management strategies that a coach may encounter in the field.  A taping practical and exam will culminate the lab experience.  There is also a $15.00 fee for lab. (If this fee is not paid, you will receive no points for the lab portion of the class.)

Texts: Pheiffer, RP & Mangnus, BC (2002).  Concepts of Athletic Training.  Boston: Jones & Bartlett.

Perrin, DH. (1995). Athletic Taping and Bracing.  Champaign: Human Kinetics.

Both are available in the College Bookstore and Damascene.

Course Evaluation:  You earn what you earn.  If you are not in class for the information, you will miss the information.  You must earn a C in order to qualify for NYS coaching certification.
