Tom Benoit MEd, ATC, CSCS
Head Athletic Trainer/Strength
and Conditioning Coordinator
Tom begins his 10th year as the Head Athletic Trainer here at Oneonta. He attended Marietta College ('93) as an undergrad and majored in English and Sports Medicine. Upon completion, he went to the University of Virginia ('94) for Graduate Studies in Athletic Training. While there, he worked at the Virginia Military Institute as a Graduate Assistant.
In addition to his Athletic Training duties, Tom has taught classes in the Physical Education Department and revitalized the Cross Country program as the Head Coach. Tom also heads the Strength and Conditioning Programs for the Athletic Program.
Andy Spence MEd, ATC, CSCS
Assistant Athletic Trainer/Instructor
Andy is in his 6th year as the Assistant Athletic Trainer at Oneonta. He attended SUNY Cortland ('90, '96) for both undergrad and graduate school. His major was Physical Education for both degrees with a concentration in Athletic Training. He has been a certified strength and conditioning specialist since 1993 and has worked with athletes from all levels in conditioning and rehabilitation.
In addition to his Athletic Training duties, Andy teaches classes in the Physical Education Department. He has also worked as the diving coach for the swimming and diving program. Additionally, Spence is certified as an examiner for the National Athletic Trainers Association. Both Andy and Tom are Certified by New York State as Athletic Trainers.
Deb Iwanow MS, ATC
Intern Athletic Trainer
Deb is a recent graduate of Ithaca College ('99, '03) where she obtained her
undergraduate and masters degrees in Exercise and Sport Sciences and Sports
Psychology respectively. While at Ithaca, Deb pursued an internship in
Athletic Training at Cornell University. While there she worked primarily
with Volleyball and Softball. After graduation, Deb began work in an
orthopedic clinic as an Athletic Trainer. During the summer of 2003 she
continued to gain experience as an Athletic Trainer for the independent league
Elmira Pioneers professional baseball team.
