In the Media!
A sociologist, whether in the
classroom or in the media, is a public figure. This is not a role we
can ignore or abdicate, but rather a central feature of who we are. As
scholars and as teachers, we share a responsibility to ensure that accurate
information and informed analysis be made public. Since my first
professional interview with WZOZ FM in 1998, my work has been featured in
several media outlets throughout New York State. In most cases, they
were simply interviews or press releases through the Center for Social
Science Research.
I have also written two special sections for the Syracuse Post-Standard. The first ran May 26, 2002 and discussed the changes in the central New York Economy. In October, the paper will publish a two-part feature about the economic challenges facing New York State communities.
