USPP Hill Climb Introduction with links to prior years

Upper Susquehanna Pedalers and Paddlers have been running a weekday evening hill climb for a number of years.

The Hill Climb takes place on the 3rd Wednesday of the month event up Franklin Mountain via NYS Route 28.

Meet at the intersection of Main St and NYS Route 28 in Oneonta for that event. The course is about 2.6 miles in length. The initial 1/4 mile is pretty flat and then you start the climb. The climb continues until the top of the mountain. Here is a profile of the climb - done by taking altitude readings with my Avocet 50 Odometer/Altimeter. I measure the climb to be about 710 ft over a course of 2.6 miles or 4.3 kilometers. That works out to an average grade of about 5 % or about a Category 3 climb. My altimeter is old so this is subject to correction.

Many thanks to Neil and Fran Toombs who have been anchoring the event, doing the timing, and getting the results to the newspaper (The Daily Star) for all these years. Sometimes the Star puts the results in right away and sometimes they don't - finding the results can be a challenge too.

If I can learn the technology I will make these results searchable so that you can pull up any subset of results that you wish. Things will change with this web page as I do that so don't be surprised if it looks different when you view it later. Ideas for improvement should be sent to Bob Thomas.

April 21st - about 65 degrees with a wind pushing up the hill. A wind so strong that the trees and wires hummed at places due to the force of the wind.
