Description:

1. Begin by reading about citations and references in our textbook. Look in both the index and the glossary of the text. Note that when you look for "references" in the index, you will find a related entry, and in the pages referred to there you will find a nice table that shows standard reference formats.

2. Read the material in the textbook about conducting a literature search (see the reading guidelines for Chapter 2).

3. Go to the library and find an article that is relevant to our class research project on "stopping behavior." You might use the keyword "compliance" or some other (or additional) keywords that you think of. The article can be in an on-line database, on a CD-ROM database, or physically present in the library in the periodicals section (that is, in one of the journals the library has). Make enough notes on the article that you can say something about it, and be sure to write down both the proper APA citation and the proper APA reference for the article.

4. Write a portion of a possible Introduction section for a research report on the class study on "stopping behavior." The section you write should be about a paragraph long - considerably less than a page. The paragraph should include a citation of the article you found. At the bottom of the page, put the word "REFERENCE" and below that, the full APA reference to the article in proper format.
