Homework #2
Title: apostrophes
Date assigned: Tu 8/31/04
Date due: Th 9/2/04
Minimum pages: 1
Maximum pages: 1

Description:

1. Locate and read the handout on writing and grammar. To find it, go to my home page, click Class Handouts, click General Handouts for All Courses, and look for the handout called "Some Notes on Writing and Grammar." Skim the entire handout, and carefully read the section on how to use apostrophes.

2. Write up a brief statement about how to use apostrophes, in your own words, and include three examples of correct use plus three examples of incorrect use. Be sure to use the correct page title information as described in the syllabus.

3. This is an assignment to try to get you a bit more comfortable using numbers. We will call it "math trick #1." You have gone to the store and bought three items for $2.97 apiece. The person at the checkout counter seems a bit preoccupied, and you want to be sure he/she comes up with the right total (before tax). How can you compute in your head, in just a couple of seconds, what the total should be? Be prepared to describe your way of doing this in class.
