Description:

THIS IS A GROUP ASSIGNMENT TO BE SUBMITTED BY YOUR FIRST GROUP.

Submit a comprehensive but brief report your observational study.

This assignment is a way to introduce you to (1) conducting research, and (2) writing an APA style report. The report will be briefer than future reports, and the grading criteria for this report will be less strict than they will be later.

The main content of this report is the fours primary sections: Introduction, Method, Results, and Discussion. A first draft of each section should be written by one member of your group as the primary author. After that, further revisions and corrections may be made by other members of the group. I will want to see all drafts AND the final product, along with information about who wrote what.

Use the following guidelines:
- Follow the general guidelines for APA reports that are given in the textbook.
- Review and follow guidelines in the general handout on guidelines for written work and the handout on writing and grammar.
- Include all standard sections of an APA report, including an abstract.
- Include at least one citation and reference. Groups should discuss this: go to library and do a search for relevant literature.
- include a filled-out copy of the Grading Sheet for APA Reports along with your report.
- Submit the report in a pocket folder. Put the report itself (stapled!) in the left pocket. Put the grading sheet in the right pocket.
- Also include all written (typed and handwritten) drafts and all raw data in the right pocket of the folder, along with other material that may be relevant supporting material but is NOT part of the formal written report.
- Be sure to label all sections and subsections of the report (there are 3 subsections under Method!).
- Review your report to be sure the appropriate things are in the appropriate sections: all methods under Method, all results under Results, NO commentary or discussion in the methods or results section (all commentary and discussion in either introduction or discussion section).
- Include at least one table and one figure, with proper captions and labels. These go in your Results section.
- Use false author names. Do not put your real names on the Title Page.
- All research reports submitted must have an accompanying page that is folded over and stapled together, and placed in the right pocket of your folder. It must contain the following information:

- title
- date
- names of group members
- statement of who was the primary (and, if appropriate, secondary) author for each section.
- statement saying "we have reviewed the material being submitted and accept responsibility for its contents" followed by signatures of all group members.
- other information that may be announced in class.

WE WILL DISCUSS IN CLASS what your hypotheses should be and what data analysis you should do.
