Issue
Team Guidelines
This handout is under
development.
The basic guidelines for
each issue team are these:
- create a way to present
the issue under discussion that is both interesting and informative.
- be sure you present the
central issue under discussion.
- be sure you present the
central arguments on each side of the issue.
- try to find at least one
data question that is relevant to the issue under discussion, and describe that
in your presentation.
- if it is possible, look up
some data (on the internet, in the library, in your text, or elsewhere) that is
relevant to the issue under discussion, and present that during your
presentation.
- LIMIT YOUR PRESENTATION TO
TEN MINUTES.
- Due to our serious time constraints, this is an important
limitation. It will be enforced. Practice your presentation together to be
sure you keep to the time limit!
Appoint one member of your team to keep close watch on the time.
SUGGESTIONS:
You may want to create a
skit in which there is role playing.
One person might say something that introduces the issue, then another
two could present opposing viewpoints, for instance through an argument, etc. Or you could have a mock TV interview of
some famous people. Be creative. Wear a costume if you like. Use visual aids, props, handouts, displays,
etc. if you like.
