Final Grades for Psyc 294, Careers Seminar.

NOTE: this is a revision of an earlier posting with corrections to certain grades. These corrections led to increases in final grades. The grades shown here are your correct final grades. Points for various course components are shown below.

I would like to make a comment on the portfolios. In class several students expressed concern that the portfolio requirements and expectations were unclear. Other students mentioned that fairly detailed lists of expectations had been given early in the course. These were presented in the section on portfolio requirements in the "Revised List of Topics" that was discussed in class and put on the class website on 9/6/04. If you have questions about your portfolio grade, please look again at that document. It contains a long list of expectations of what should be in the portfolio. Several of the portfolios were excellent: they were very nicely organized (with Tables of Contents and subsections!), and contained many thoughtful, well-written (even if sometimes brief) individual commentaries and analyses. Other portfolios were little more than a large collection of handouts and printouts with almost no commentaries, analyses, individual applications, or personal contributions. Portfolio grades ranged from A+ to C-.

I did two things to adjust grades upward. First, the original course weightings for events attendance were 3 points each for two events attendance reports. Students who went to two events got the six points, but those who missed had only two points removed for each event missed.

Second, I adjusted the final grades determined by points earned to raise grades by 1/3 grade: that is, a B became a B+, an B+ became an A-, and so on. In one case there was more of an adjustment upward due to a number of special contributions.

Two students with special circumstances will get letters explaining their grades.

I will be happy to explain grading in individual circumstances further if you wish to meet with me early next semester.

ALL STUDENTS SHOULD PICK UP THEIR PORTFOLIOS FROM MY OFFICE DURING THE FIRST WEEK OF THE SPRING SEMESTER.

Have a great holiday.
