Psyc 294: Homework #2
Title: Printing from the web.
Date assigned: Thursday 1/20/05
Date due: Tuesday 1/25/05
Minimum pages: 2
Maximum pages: 2

Background:

Since you are paying to use a printer (or even if you aren't), it is important to learn to print web pages without wasting paper. This assignment gives you practice in some ways of doing that. You also will practice (a) following directions; (b) putting a heading on your assignment, and (c) stapling your papers together.

Description:

1. Go to my website and open the course syllabus for this course.

2. Use PRINT PREVIEW to review what it will look like printed.

3. Use the appropriate print command to print page 2 of the syllabus only. [Hint: the command to use is File > Print, then select "Pages" and enter "2" in the box.]

4. Practice using COPY and PASTE SPECIAL - UNFORMATTED TEXT with the following procedure:
- Start a new Microsoft Word document.
- Shrink the screen so you can open Internet Explolorer.
- Using Internet Explorer, go to Oneonta's home page.
- Click on "Academics."
- On the Academics home page, highlight everything on the left from "Academics" to "Teaching, Learning, and Technology Center."
- Copy this material to the clipboard with the COPY command (click the icon or press Ctrl/C).
- Paste it into your Word document using Edit > Paste Special > Unformatted Text.
- Delete lines from the top and bottom so that the only remaining material is the list from "Celebration of Teaching" to "Science Discovery Center."

5. Add another section to the page using a similar procedure:
- In your Word document, put your cursor above the material you have left on the page, and add a couple of lines (press Enter twice).
- Open the course syllabus for this course in Internet Explorer.
- This time, use COPY and PASTE SPECIAL - FORMATTED TEXT to copy the top section of the syllabus, from the top of the syllabus to the bottom of the catalog description, and paste that section into your Word document.

6. NOTE that in paragraph 4 I asked you to use Unformatted Text, and in paragraph 5 I asked you to use Formatted Text. You can experiment to see how these work for you in different situations. Often it is useful to try each, and just use the "UNDO" command to back up and try the other option if you don't like the first outcome.

7. At the top of the page, type in the standard course heading (the name for this assignment is "Homework #2). Double-check with Print Preview to be sure everything is on a single page. If it isn't, adjust margins or font sizes to get it onto a single page.

8. Attach together the two pages you have printed, with the page that has the standard course heading as the top page. Attach the two pages with a stapler, NOT a paper-clip.
