One inch margins
4-5 pages
Literature cited page

II.  How do we cite?

Follow the style guide for American Antiquity found at the Society for American Archaeology web site: http://www.saa.org/publications/Styleguide/styframe.html

Make sure you cite any references when you use them in the text-even when loosely paraphrasing (putting in your own words)

III.  Literature Cited

You may use additional references (other than the ones that have been assigned) if you think them relevant.
You must cite these references in your paper
Once you have cited them they need to go in a section at the end of your paper titled Literature Cited.  Literature Cited will follow the format in the American Antiquity style guide.

IV.  The Paper Itself

Givens:

typed and correct spelling--use spell-check!
proper grammar, complete sentences, paragraph style
Write drafts!

Writing Assignment #1

What must you consider when designing a research program in archaeology?

     Decide on a particular site/area you are going to investigate and explain all the things you need to consider in constructing a research design.  Make sure you consider all the areas of a research design.

     Things to consider/include: Aspects of the history and goals of archaeology, the nature of the archaeological record, choices of survey and excavation methods, site stratigraphy and formation processes.

Writing Assignment #2

What are the methods and techniques used in archaeological artifact analysis?

     Decide on a particular area of artifact/ecofact analysis.  If you are analyzing that particular artifact/ecofact type-what are the things you must consider?  What overlap is there between the artifact you have chosen to discuss and other artifact/ecofact types.

     Things to consider/include: Sampling, site stratigraphy and formation processes, excavation and recovery methods.

Writing Assignment #3

Detailed Outline and/or Draft of Final Project and Paper

     Include topic, references, plans for completion of project/paper.

Final Project

The Final Project and Paper will be discussed at a later date, but you have several options:

Laboratory Project:
     Artifact/Ecofact Analysis based on collections in the lab.

Field Project:
     Research Design of site survey and /or excavation for Biological Field Station.

You can expect the final project to be between 10 and 12 pages.
