USGS Mapping Data |
The US Geological Survey provides free digital
spatial data. This project utilized: Digital
elevation data USGS Topo
Quads Orthorectified
air photos |
|
The US Geological Survey provides online
access to river flow data, much of which is real time. Decommissioned stream
gage station data is available here: http://ida.water.usgs.gov/ida/
|
|||
Delaware County has provided an excellent
visual overview of the severity of the flooding during the June 26-28, 2006
event |
|||
Otsego County provides an interactive map of
flooded areas, as well as maps of roads closed after the flood. |
|||
This site provides satellite estimates of
flooded areas world-wide. Superb resource! Here’s the link to the detected
flood areas for the 2006 flood. http://www.dartmouth.edu/~floods/images/2006119Susquehana.jpg

Data Visualization: Global Mapper |
Much of the spatial information from the USGS
requires specialized software to view the data. I use Global Mapper, a
software package specifically designed for this purpose. Global Mapper is
available as freeware, or for purchase. Here’s a short intro to downloading data and working
with Global Mapper. |

Flood 2006 Disaster in the Heartland of New York |
This is a photo journal of the June 2006 flood
in Otsego and Delaware counties, put together by The Daily Star, a local
newspaper in Oneonta. Currently, the book is out of print. |
||
New York State provides a nice click-able map
interface to download aerial photos for an area of interest |
|||
This site provides access to numerous types of
spatial data, both through a click-able map, or via a list ordered by county |
|||
While this site does not have information on
the 2006 Flood, there are links to stakeholders for the Upper Susquehanna
River basin |
|||
This site does have a summary of the 2006
Flood event, in addition to many other sources of information for the Upper
Susquehanna |
