Announcements

This page will be used to post announcements regarding courses. Announcements will be posted with most recent announcement at the top of the list. Old announcements will be retained for reference until the end of the semester.

12/19/03. Psyc 220 students. Grades for APA reports, Core Concept Examination, Final Examination, and overall course grade are now posted here.

12/8/03. Psyc 220 students. Lisa has prepared a comprehensive set of key terms from the text, which you may find helpful in your studying. It is listed on the home page for Psyc 220, underneath the listing for Key Terms and Concepts. The title is Key Terms from Text. You may want to print a copy and bring it to the final two classes for our use during review for the exam.

12/2/03. Psyc 220 students. My apologies for inadvertently removing the class data set from the website. It is now back. The link to the class data to be used for APA paper #3 is on the home page for Psyc 220.

12/1/03. Psyc 220 students. I now have posted a copy of the chart for statistical significance of correlations on my website. You can get to it from the Handouts home page, or from the Psyc 220 home page.

10/30/03. Psyc 220 students. I still don't understand why the link on the Happy vs. Nice data page to the website for computing statistical significance of a correlation sometimes works but sometimes doesn't. I have modified the page so it now contains instructions to just copy and paste the link provided. If that doesn't work, I also have provided a link to a second website that contains the same information in slightly different form.

10/27/03. Psyc 220 students. I have posted interim grade summaries so that you can see how you stand, and to check my records. To see the records, go to the home page for Psyc 220 or click here.

10/17/03. ALL STUDENTS. Go see the talk by Ray McGovern, ex-CIA analyst, on Monday 10/20 7:30 pm in the Hunt Union Ballroom. Extra credit if you write me one page containing the following: One to two paragraphs on how you reacted to the talk, and one to two paragraphs on how it relates to the course you are taking (one page TOTAL). Psych 220 students: for how it relates to the course, mention whether or not any research is mentioned or could have been mentioned, and say something about it that uses ONE term or principle we have used in the course. Psyc 294 students: for how it relates to the course, say a few words about how anything in the course relates to careers or to careers in psychology.

10/17/03. Psyc 220 students. Readings for Chapters 9, 10, and 11 are all to be done together, and are all due THURSDAY 10/23. The reading guidelines were already posted, but now I have added the study questions. Even though I have left out large sections of these chapters (see the reading guidelines), you may find that some of this material is ddificult, so I will go over it in class to try to sort out the essential things a psychology student should know. You should be able to figure out most of the study questions, but if #8 and #9 for Ch. 11 are too difficult, don't worry about them; we will go over them in class. The questions on the quiz(zes) on Thursday will be drawn from all three chapters.

10/2/03. Psyc 220 students. Reading guidelines are now complete for the course, except for minor changes that may arise during lectures and discussions. Some study questions still have to be added, but all the major page sections are covered. Also, I have posted a complete description of the homework assignment (#6) given in class today, and due a week from today. Have a nice break.

9/18/03. Psyc 220 students. Reading assignments for next week (Chapters 4 and 5) were previously posted. I have now added the study questions for those chapters as well.

9/18/03. Psyc 294 students. The home page for our Careers website is:
http://organizations.oneonta.edu/Psychology_Careers/

The home page for our class notes was sent to you by e-mail.

9/10/03. Psyc 220 students. Homework assignments #3 (due Thurs 9/11 or Tues 9/16) and #4 (due Thurs 9/18) have been posted.

9/10/03. Psyc 220 students. I have posted an expanded version of the spreadsheet presented in class yesterday. It contains (a) the charts I used to illustrate how you can present misleading data by adjusting the axis on a chart; (b) instructions for creating a chart in Excel; and (c) instructions for using a function in Excel. If you looked at this chart yesterday, I have expanded it considerably. To get to the chart, go to the Psyc 220 home page, click on Demonstrations and Activities, and click on Using Excel. Be sure to read the note about saving the file before opening it.

9/10/03. Psyc 220 students. I have posted a handout on statistical significance. It is listed under class handouts. Please take a look at it and be sure you understand it. You are responsible for knowing what is in it.

9/2/03. Psyc 220 students. Readings and study questions for the second week (due 9/9/03) are now posted. Also take a look at the updated Dates sheet for Psyc 220 to see that, in addition to the readings from Chapter 2, some readings from the appendix also will be required. (It's time to refresh our memories about what "p<.05" means!)

8/27/03. Psyc 220 students. ROOM CHANGE: Psyc 220 will meet in Fitzelle 319.

8/27/93. Psyc 294 students. ROOM CHANGE: Psyc 294 will meet in Fitzelle 318.

8/25/03. Psyc 220 students. The course syllabus is now posted on the website, along with a preliminary table of dates and reading assignments, details on the reading assignment for the first week, and a handout on key terms and concepts. See the home page for Psyc 220.

8/25/03. Psyc 294 Students. It is unlikely I will post material here regarding the syllabus, readings, etc. until after the first class. All of this will be discused during the first class.
