Disaster Relief Fund
Students learn a great deal while on these experiential learning trips - they have produced short videos to help express what they have learned. Please check out the videos from each student cohort: 2015 group, 2016 group, 2017 group: video #1 and video #2. And, I slide show that I put together.

Project Buena Vista (PBV)
I serve on the Board of Directors for PBV. We are a non-profit which owns and manages 100 acres of rain forest in Peru. We strive to protect the rain forest, educate about the value of the rain forest, and provide medical care to isolated jungle towns. A healthier population will care more about their environment!
I have traveled to Peru to our site and helped with one of the medical outreach trips. We provided acupuncture, chiropractic, massage, and Chinese medicine to several jungle towns! Don't worry, I did not pretend to be a medical professional! I collected data and helped with organizational tasks!

What is the Disaster Relief Fund?
Since 2006, I have been traveling with students to disaster sites to help with relief and recovery. We have traveled to Mississippi, New Orleans, NYC, Schoharie, and other locations in the local area. Under my guidance, students have organized other trips to disaster sites such as Galveston, TX.
Students learn by doing. This method of teaching is known as experiential learning. I also incorporate service-learning into these experiences which means that students are also conducting volunteer work.
The Disaster Relief Fund allows the students to participate in these experiences at a very low cost. Instead of it costing them ~$1,200, it costs them $200 or less. I take pride in that I have been able to offer students such a low-cost powerful experience when we are in an environment in which most comparable expereinces can be cost-prohibitive.
