USPP Time Trial Results for 2005 with
links to prior years
Upper Susquehanna Pedalers and Paddlers have been running a
weekday evening cycling time trial (TT) for at least 18 years
(1986-2003, inclusive). In the most recent years the TT has been
run starting at 6:15 pm on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday's of the
month. The TT begins and ends at the souhern end of NYS 205 where
it intersects with Otsego County 48. It is an out and back loop
along Otsego County 48 aka as the Back River Rd from Oneonta to
Otego. If you are wondering about the topography
here's an old topo map with the course on it. Please note
that the road is not exactly the same because the map predates
I-88 and many other changes - but most of the road is unchanged.
Even if you have no great hopes of being the next Lance Armstrong
or Tony Rominger you should do it once just to see what a time
trial is like. Riding your bicycle all out for 30 minutes can
really be therapeutic. You feel so much better when you stop!
Over 182 different cyclists have made the effort on this course.
People have ridden it on tricked out time trial bikes, touring
bikes, mountain bikes, recumbents, folding bikes and tandems.
If you like the old topo map you can access maps for all NY state
and New England at: http://docs.unh.edu/nhtopos/nhtopos.htm

Many thanks to Neil and Fran Toombs who have been anchoring
the event, doing the timing, and getting the results to the newspaper
(The Daily Star) for
all these years. Sometimes the Star puts the results in right
away and sometimes they don't - finding the results can be a challenge
too. Click here to see one set of results
from The Daily Star.
If I can learn the technology I will make these results searchable
so that you can pull up any subset of results that you wish. Things
will change with this web page as I learn to do more. Don't be
surprised if it looks different when you view it later. Ideas
for improvement should be sent to Bob
Thomas.
Some Hill
Climb results and a profile of the hill are now online.

Here's one more way to display the data. I have made a table
that includes only each rider or tandem team's personal best.
It also has the average miles per hour computed in the table.
In the table below the results are grouped by the Date the
Time Trial was held. I am not the most accurate typist in the
world - if you catch an error please let me know so that I can
correct it.

- It's 5:06, 32 degrees and snowing quite steadily, so we've
decided not to have an official time trial tonight. If anyone
really wants to ride in this
weather, you're on your own. The next time trial will be the
2nd Wed. of May - the 14th - unless the weather doesn't cooperate.
- Hope to see some of you next time.
