Percussion Ensembles Offered

FALL 2008

World Percussion Ensemble, MUSC 280.05

MF 1:00-2:50pm, FA 210, 3 credits

Professor Julie Licata

This course will explore techniques of percussion instruments indigenous to numerous world cultures. This semester the world percussion ensemble will focus on basic hand drumming techniques in cross-cultural drum circles, as well as more specific styles of West African drumming and Brazilian Samba.

No prior musical performing experience is required.

If interested, come to FA 210 from 1-2:50 Friday 8/29.

Concert/Classical Percussion Ensemble, MUSC 280.08

MWF 12:00-12:50pm, FA 210, 3 credits

Professor Julie Licata

The primary objective of percussion ensemble is to supplement the skills developed in private lessons through standard percussion ensemble literature. Percussion ensemble provides the opportunity to address musical, technical and performing issues, while preparing for performance in a chamber setting. In percussion ensemble students will be challenged to expand their views of ensemble communication and interaction.

Must have some proficiency in music reading.

DRUMLINE

Tues 6-8:30 FA 216, not for credit

The drumline currently consists of battery percussion; 4 basses, 2 snares, 1 tenor. If there is interest, it is possible to add a front ensemble to the group. This semester the drumline is already scheduled to perform at the President’s Induction on September 12, and in the Oneonta Centennial Parade on October 4.

Depending on interest, auditions may be required.
